Hey Guild Members
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Uneeb Kari, a first-year Master’s student with majors in game design and development at Aalto University. I am writing to express my sincere interest in the position of International Captain for 2024.
The primary motivation behind my application is the desire to bring greater visibility to our department, which often seems hidden among the various others. Despite belonging to the Computer Science department, there is a feeling of being in the minority, and I am keen to change that. I believe that by actively participating in guild activities, we can create a stronger presence and contribute significantly to the vibrant community at Aalto.
In my short time at Aalto, I have discovered a passion for organizing events and assisting in coordinating activities that help newcomers integrate into the teekkari community. While I am still on the journey to becoming a teekkari myself, I am optimistic about making a positive impact on the guild.
The role of International Captain is both demanding and crucial, overseeing the well-being of over 200 new students. Despite being a first-year student, I see this as a unique opportunity to organize larger events and interact with a diverse group of people, making it one of the most enriching experiences of my academic life.
Having been an Aalto student, I understand the significance of having a familiar face as a guide during the initial days. I aspire to become that face for the incoming freshmen in the next academic year. Additionally, coming from Pakistan, I have noticed a reluctance among students from my region to participate in guild activities. As International Captain, I aim to bridge this gap and effectively communicate with and motivate international students to engage in both international and non-international events.
I firmly believe that cultural exchange is a two-way street, and I intend to encourage both Finnish and international students to partake in each other’s events. Breaking language barriers and embracing the diverse cultural offerings at Aalto can lead to the creation of lasting friendships and memorable experiences.
While I am applying individually, I am open to the idea that two International Captains can bring even more to the table. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with a like-minded individual who shares the passion for fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment within our guild.
